Re-imagine, Re-invent, and Re-discover Local History

Casey and I presented our program on Sunday morning along with James from City Planning and Patric Stillman, our Digital Storytelling trainer, as well as the Pasadena Library panel who shared the two-hour session.

There were about 35 or so in the audience. Who knew so many people were interested in local history! Lots of good questions afterwards, and some nice compliments about Rancho, it gave us a chance to showcase both our City and our library grant projects related to local history that we've had the opportunity to work on in recent years as a part of the library team. Putting this presentation together was a learning experience, having never presented at a conference. It was also a good opportunity to reflect on the work we've done on local history in the library the past couple of years, as well as thinking about the future of these resources, in maintaining, adding to, as well as creating potential new components and partnerships.

  1. As a result of hearing us speak, I hope it helped raise the awareness of the key role libraries can play in providing access to local history information. For example, a librarian with Escondido told me we’d given her a renewed interest her own library’s local history project, which had lost momentum. If the goal of presenting is to create a change in the listener, I think we did that.

  2. I think you guys did a great job with this. You had a god sized audience that all seemed to be attentive. Well done!
